When I first started flipping, I was a complete newbie—with no experience and no idea how to run a business. For a decade, I worked in restaurants, feeling overworked, underpaid, and burnt out. Everything changed when I stumbled into the world of flipping.

It all began with a pottery wheel and kiln I bought for $300, hoping to craft my way to a profit. When that didn’t work out, I flipped both pieces for $3,000, netting a $2,700 profit—far more than I ever made waiting tables. That was my first taste of flipping, and I was hooked.

Next, I flipped a 1987 Suzuki Samurai, making $2,600 in profit. But the real breakthrough came when I started flipping furniture. I bought a sofa for $20 and sold it for $200. I kept going—flipping dressers, chairs, décor, rugs, and more. Within three months, I made $4,000. By the fifth month, I surpassed $10,000 in a single month, achieving more than I ever imagined.

I didn’t have a background in interior design, Instagram marketing, or selling. What began as a hobby quickly grew into something beyond my wildest dreams. Within four months, I doubled my income and achieved my first $20K month by month nine, closing my first year with six figures in revenue.

The turning point came when I was invited to join 1stDibs, an exclusive marketplace for vintage furniture sellers. My DIY photo setup—a simple arrangement of plastic pipes and a painted canvas backdrop—caught the eye of a recruiter, and I was personally invited to sell on their platform. It was an opportunity I never thought possible.

In just two years, I tapped into a market I didn’t even know existed, meeting high demand and growing my business. What started as a side hustle evolved into a full-scale business. Driving a 26ft box truck loaded with furniture sold to clients in major cities every month became my new normal.

If I could transform my life through flipping, I believe anyone can. Furniture flipping is an opportunity for everyone—whether you’re a complete beginner or have no business experience. With the right strategies, mindset, and market, the possibilities are endless.

Whether you’re looking to create a new side hustle, explore your creativity, or build and scale a full-time business, furniture flipping could help you reach your goals.

If I could do it, so could you!

My story is a little different. When I joined Chicci Cheeki, I reluctantly did so. My passion and profession was metal craft. I spent the greater part of a decade focused on steel fabrication. Working for some of the most dynamic employers willing to hire me. I spent my time cutting my teeth and honing in on my craft, and I took it seriously. Nearly 7 years in, I finally decided to open my own shop.

Shortly after, and 6 months into Ash’s newfound venture, she asked me to dive into the world of furniture flipping. I didn’t know what to think about it. On one end, I was attached to the idea of being a fabricator. On the other hand, I couldn’t deny the trajectory that was unfolding in front of me. We both knew that if I joined in on this growing venture, we would be able to scale Chicci Cheeki to new heights, surpassing the accomplishments I had achieved in the welding world.

Initially, my job was to support and assist in picking up as many items as possible. But as time went on, with an eye for craftsmanship and a stickler mentality for quality, I soon became Chicci’s quality control—department of one.

Interestingly, despite my background in hands-on fabrication, I didn’t actually refurbish anything in our ever-growing catalog of sold items until nine months into Ash’s flipping journey. Aside from giving a few plaster lamps and table bases a fresh coat of white paint, we went a full nine months without doing any major refurbishing. It was quite the shift from the world of steel fabrication that I came from. But just like Ash, I was hooked and never looked back.

Throughout the duration of Chicci Cheeki, we worked as a team, with different roles, both navigating an industry that was shrouded in secrecy. At the time, no flippers were willing to share their knowledge, yet we were determined. With our unique strengths and experiences we carved out our own success and the story unfolded. Never did I imagine we would find a path to accomplishments that were so far out of our world of ordinary, but we did, and others noticed.

With friends, family and industry members consistently asking how and what we were doing, we ultimately decided to take two long years to develop what eventually became the Furniture Flipping Business Academy.

With love, we are very proud to present all our knowledge and lessons learned to the rest of the world. If you’re a side hustler, entrepreneur, amateur flipper, or professional furniture dealer, this Academy is your go-to resource, built on our experiences from the very beginning. It’s everything we did right, and it’s everything we could have done better.
